ColorCrack: Identifying Cracks in Glass
نویسنده
چکیده
Automatically identifying cracks in glass is an application of machine vision that has not been studied much before. It poses the unique opportunity to incorporate the physics of glass and how it cracks into a detection algorithm. ColorCrack is an automated method of finding cracks in glass smartphone screens using insights from previous work in object and edge detection. The key to ColorCrack is the ability to automatically detect cracked screens from nearly any angle. This functionality allows the system to take advantage of the fact that cracks are more visible at certain angles to improve the detection accuracy. The algorithm was developed and evaluated using a personally collected dataset. Initial results show that ColorCrack can typically find the screen correctly or with little error, as well as identify the main crack structures, efficiently enough for most applications. In the future, the ColorCrack algorithm could be extended to other glass types for applications and has uses in fields such as material and forensic science.

Experimental Investigation of Subsurface Damages Made by Cup Grinding and Lapping Process of Optical Glass BK7 in Ductile Mode
Conventional material removal of BK7 optical glass will normally result in brittle fracture at the surface, generating severe subsurface damage and poor surface finish. Subsurface damages induced by grinding strongly influence the mechanical strength and optical quality of optical glasses. However, through ductile mode grinding it is possible to reduce the surface and subsurface cracks. It is m...

متن کاملExperimental deformation of a glassy basalt
Deformation experiments were conducted with the intention of identifying how the mechanical behavior and deformation microstructures of a basalt are influenced by the presence of glass that can crystallize to metamorphic minerals or flow. A glassy plagioclase-rich basalt was tested for periods of up to 649 hours at temperatures of 675-875°C, a confining pressure of 1.0 GPa, and strain rates of ...
متن کاملDurable Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete with Supplimentary Cementitious Materials
Durability of concrete structure in marine environments is a big issue for many decades due to chloride attack. Chloride penetrates the concrete structure and accelerates the corrosion process of reinforcement which decreases the life of those structures. Also shrinkage cracks in concrete play main role for chloride penetration through concrete surface. Many researchers tried to find easy and ...
متن کاملCross-section Morphology of the Scratch-Induced Cracks in Soda-Lime-Silica Glass
Scratch-induced cracking is a serious problem for the use of glass products. At the scratch process, both median (vertical to the glass surface) and lateral (horizontal to the glass surface) cracks are formed. In this study, morphology of the scratch-induced cracks in a commercial soda-lime-silica glass was investigated by the scanning electron microscopy for the specimen broken across the scra...
